Vassfaret Bear Park

The name Vassfaret has always been linked with bears - this area became well-known as the last home for a wild bear population in Norway.
The brown bear is the largest land-based predator in Europe and is not to be trifled with. The male can grow to 2.3 metres and weigh up to 350 kg! They are quite a sight as they roam around in Flå, in the lower reaches of Hallingdal valley.
Vassfaret Bear Park is a beautiful stretch of varied forestry. It is home to two bears, and the population is steadily growing, with new cubs every year. The park also has a family of four moose. There are lambs, goats, rabbits and poultry which the children can help feed.
Vassfartunet
Also in the Bear Park is Vassfartunet with its exhibition of various artisan traditions. You can bring your own food to barbecue outdoors, or in the vast barn which seats 70-80. On certain days, historical tableaux are set up, and there is an information trail with exhibitions depicting the traditional culture of Vassfaret.
