Valhall Hotel is located on the beautiful island of Krøttøy, which is only 2 km2, and lies in the heart of the world’s most northern archipelago. This amazing archipelago consists of 365 small islands.
To get to Valhall Hotel one must take the local passenger boat which uses about 50 minutes. There are 2-3 arrivals per day. Krøttøy is also connected to the island of Meløyvær by bridge. Meløyvær was once the centre of the fishing industry in this area.
The main attraction is nature itself in this fascinating archipelago. The wildlife is rich with otters, seals, whales and eagles, as well as a great variety of sea birds.
Our guests have the opportunity to rent boats to go fishing, or just to enjoy the nature. With the many white beaches you can bring a picnic and forget about every days stress.
In winter, it is the aurora which enchants our guests. Krøttøy is very suitable for the studying of the aurora, because we do not have a lot of light pollution here. The entire sky is torn by these fantastic colors and patterns.
Valhall Hotel has 44 beds, a large kitchen, a laundry room and a sauna, as well as other facilities.
A boat trip onboard a rigid inflatable boat (RiB) in this archipelago is a fantastic experience with many birds and animals (white-tailed eagle safari). Here is a local family of seals, and you can visit the bird rock on Helløy with over 6000 nesting birds.
Steinavær further out in fjorden is a group of islands once populated by 127 people in the early 1900s. Here are traces of old habitation and we can take you on a guided tour telling stories about what life was like.
The archipelago is ideal for canoeing and diving in clean and clear water.
Krøttøy is a great place to see the Northern Lights in all its glory without the disturbing ground lights. From the top of Krøttøykollen there is a full 360-degree panoramic view of the sky and free sight in the direction of the North Pole.
