The Norwegian Aviation Museum

The Norwegian National Aviation Museum or “Norsk Luftfartsmuseum” has a number of exhibits and special programs dedicated to civil and military aviation history and Norway’s role within it. The collections are a cooperative venture between the Norwegian National Aviation Museum, the AVINOR Museum, and the Military Defense Museum.
But the real excitement begins once you're inside. From the entrance, which comprises the light and pleasant Café Gidsken, you move into the Rotunda, a tall and spacious exhibition about mankind's ancient dream of flying.
On both sides of the Rotunda, there are monumental exhibition halls - one for civil aviation and one for military aviation history. Together, they form a virtually inexhaustible source of insight and information, experience and wonder. At the museum you can enjoy an exciting tour of the aviation history through interesting exhibitions. You will be able to take a closer look at large and small aircraft, such as U2, Junkers JU52 and Spitfire.
The Norwegian Aviation Museum opened in 1994 and is a national museum for aviation history. The museum is located in a building shaped like a giant propeller, and covers military and civil aviation history from the first flimsy flying machines made from canvas, wire and bamboo to today’s jumbo jets that cross oceans and continents in hours. Regular guided tours during the summer, with special tours for children. From the museum's control tower, we see a spacious and wild landscape, full of contrasts and with a climate that has provided many challenges for aviation.
Visitors can set out on an exciting "journey" through eras of our modern day history and they can experience dreams become reality, war and peace, aviation as entertainment, defence system and as transportation. Exhibitions covering 10.000 square metres. Go on a guided tour round the museum, discover the museum yourself, or try flying yourself in one of our simulators.
This museum traces the path of technological development that has led to a means of transport that we take for granted today.
The Norwegian National Aviation Museum is located in Bodoe¸, at the site where the German Air Force based their flight operations during World War II. Beside the Museum is the modern day airport.
