The motto of the South Trøndelag Coastal Heritage Museum on Hitra is "We tell the history". The museum wants to tell stories and convey knowledge in as lively a manner as possible. The coastal heritage museum's symbol is the cormorant. Why? Because the cormorant is one of the coast's most characteristic and fabled creatures. In the cormorant, you find the nature, the culture and the mysteriousness.
Stabben Fortress is a coastal fortress built during the second world war, by Russian and Serbian prisoners. The ancient and rich coastal culture is put on display at old trading centres and fish processing plants. The Rissa Coastal Museum puts on display the ancient tradition of the Lofoten fisheries. For a guided tour around the Fortress, please contact the Coastal Museum of South Trøndelag.
The museum offers the following:
- Two permanent exhibitions
