GLACIER HIKES, LOM
Glaciers are an invitation to experience a wonderful world of blue ice and snow, surmounting icy towers and deep crevasses. The glacier Smørstabbreen is located in the Jotunheimen National Park, 1600 m (5,120 ft) above sea level and is approximately 45 minutes light walking from the main road. The glacier is ringed by mountains which are more than 2000 m (6,400 ft) high.
Lom is a thriving village amidst mountains and glaciers, the best-known of which are Galdhoppingen and Glitterind. 90% of the Lom region lies higher than 900 m a.s.l., where farming is impossible, so the mountains with their various kinds of stone and, nowadays, tourism have been their main source of income.

Glacier hike Smørstabreen - Naturopplevingar
The tour starts from Krossbu at Sognefjellet. 45 min. - one hour walk to the glacier. The tour is adjusted to weather and snow conditions on the glacier, and the preferences of the participants. easy to slightly demanding hike, five to eight hours.
Season: July - October, price 600 NOK pro person.
Practical information
- When: Daily.
- Booking: Booking must be done before 8:00 p.m. the day prior to arrangement.
- Meeting place: NATURE EXPERIENCE in Lom. Located at the sports shop "Fjell og Fritid".
- Meeting time: 9:00 a.m.
- Duration: 6 - 8 hours, including transportation.
- Meals/Board: Guests at hotels, etc, have to make their own lunch packet and fill up their thermos/flask during breakfast.
- Personal equipment: Participants must bring warm, wind proof and water resistant outer clothing, Hiking/mountain boots (rentals available), mittens, Knit cap, sunglasses, sunscreen and a small back pack.
- Special equipment: NATURE EXPERIENCE provides the participants with ice axe, crampons, ropes and harnesses.
- Capacity: 30 persons.
- Minimum age: 12 years, younger with parents/guardian.
- Transportation: The NATURE EXPERIENCE minibus.
- Distances: Lom - Krossbu 50 km (miles)
- Maps: Series M711 1:50 000, 1518 II Galdhøpiggen, 1518 III Sygnefjell. 1:100 000 Tourist map of Jotunheimen.
- Program: Group transportation from Lom to Krossbu. We do not follow any set paths on the glacier but go where the participants desire. Lunch will be on the glacier.
