Bondegårdsferie (Fjellvær Coastal and Farmland Holiday) is idyllically situated among the islets and skerries of Fjellværøy (Fjellvær Island) which is surrounded by 102 large and small islands. The island is connected by bridge to Hitra. Bondegårdsferie consists of five top-quality cottages, a boarding house with a cafe and a museum of local history. All the cottages are insulated for winter comfort and have bathrooms with heated floors - your feet will love it! Activities associated with cross-country, deep-sea fishing, fjord fishing, forest hiking, sea fishing, swimming in the sea, walking. People have lived here at least since the bronze age. A grave mound from that period is still here and tells us so.

For hundreds of years til the reformation, the farm belonged to the church. After the reformation the king took all the farms belonging to the church for himself. Our farm was given to the beiliff as part of his salary. About 1750 the farm was for sale and came on private hands.The farm has belonged to the family since 1802.

Fjellværøya museum will show you how life was on the farm and you'll learn about the colourful history of our island. The main building was renovated in 1747 and was moved to its current location in 1890. a guided tour of Fjellværøya, where you can visit "Bussekaillstua" (the Bogey man's cave), an old robbers' cave from the Middle Ages. With our playground and all the things to see and do, your children will also enjoy their stay.

General facilities are banqueting rooms, café, kiosk, not all rooms have all facilities, playground, satellite TV. Café is fully licensed with good variety on the menu. You may hire bicycles, boats, fishing tackle.

You'll find us on FJELLVÆR in the community of HITRA - south of the Trondheimsfjord. Hitra is the largest island south of Lofoten. Today you can come here with car (R714) 160km from Trondheim or you can take the coastal express from Trondheim or Kristiansund.

Although Hitra is an island you can drive your own car all the way. We are linked to the mainland with an underwater tunnel and 2 bridges.

Here you'll find different types of landscape from shore to "high mountains", or at least the flowers and the birds normally living in these areas.

You can reach any of the different types within 20 minutes when you are walking. Other facilities are:

  • Boats: small motorboat
  • Camping and cottage: bed linen, cabins with shower and WC
  • Harbour facility: echo sounder
  • Kitchen and household: electric cooker, fridge, self-catering
