Egersund - Norway's bigest fishing harbour

Egersund - a small, cosy town nestling in a rugged but protective coast of islands, coves and skerries - celebrated its 200th anniversary year in 1998. The town and region offer natural attractions, cultural events and outdoor pursuits of many kinds.
Egersund is nestled on the hilly coast protected from the open sea behind the large island of Eigeroya, which has a port for ferries to Denmark. There is a small boat harbour, and moorings for many other leisure and fishing boats and a monument to the Egersund Pilot watching over the sea.
There is lots to explore whether you like to be active or just stroll through narrow streets of wooden cottages. The sea offers wonderful fishing and there are many splendid mountain trails.
Further afield are Sogndalsstrand, Jøssingfjord, the Gursli mines, Gloppedalen, Månafossen falls and mighty Kjerag - just some of the places you can visit. History lives and breathes in the landscape, timber buildings, pottery museum and old handicraft traditions still kept in sway.
Egersund is a festive town with lots of entertainment - perhaps another good reason to extend your stay?
