Blokkodden Villmarksmuseum (wilderness museum)

This wildlife museum with a focus on culture and history features buildings and artefacts stemming from South-Sami culture, forestry, agriculture, hunting and fishing . The museum is located in a recreational area along Rv . 26 (national road) at Drevsjø and provides an insight into how people have lived in Femundsmarka down through the ages .

Blokkodden Villmarksmuseum (wilderness museum) has several cultural monuments related to the activities at 'Rørosværket' (plant) in Engerdal. There are around ten coal stack foundations, most likely from the 18th century. At the museum one can get an understanding in how people lived, hunted and went fishing in the 17th century and onwards. Engerdal is the only municipality in Hedmark County that has a Same population and living Same traditions. This open-air museum interprets the history of the utilisation of natural resources of the Femundmarka commons by the local Sámi and Norwegian populations.

Among the cultural sites in the area are dozens of large koking piles, which are assumed to originate from the middle of the 1700s . In 1986, the museum was nominated as the Norwegian candidate for the European Parliament’s museum award .
