Anna Rogde is a flat-topped wooden schooner built in 1867-1868 by Bangsund shipyard in Namsos. The ship was launched on 20 August 1868 under the name "Anna af Bergen, rigging took place the following year.
The schooner has a typical clipper hull and was designed by renowned boat builder Sigbjørn Birkeland from Bakke in Bergen for a company party in Bergen. Carrier speed was then in rapid development because it would have quicker transport to the markets of particular foods. This led builders away from the broad, flat, square sail of sloops with faster ships to exploit the wind better. The new type of boat was also easier to maneuver in confined waters and needed less crew.
The world’s oldest sailing schooner, built 1868. The good ship transported dried cod to distant ports like Lisbon and Arkhangelsk. This part of our cultural heritage is lovingly restored, and is now used to teach the young generation how to sail, but is also available for small and medium sized groups.
